Tsurumi acquires Belgian distributor, Marine Motors & Pumps

Feb 26 2015

Tsurumi (Europe) GmbH has acquired a majority of Belgian Tsurumi distributor, Marine Motors & Pumps N.V. in order to support and strengthen both companies in the European pump market.

Marine Motors & Pumps (MMPumps) was established in 1935 and has been running for 80 years this year by the same family for three generations.

MMPumps will continue to run the business, selling and renting pumps for the Belgian market, but will be involved indirectly in the French rental market through cross-renting. Tsurumi’s new French company, Tsurumi Pump Location S.A.S. (TPL), has established its first depot in east France and will rent pumps from MMPumps for French customers.

“We have had a strong relationship with Tsurumi over the last 40 years and this development will strengthen our position in the market and serve customers directly,” says managing director of MMPumps, Johan Dekker. “This acquisition will increase our knowledge, productivity and sales, while providing an excellent service to our customers.”

Applications and installations
MMPumps serves not only the main dewatering and sewerage markets for Tsurumi, but also covers nearly all pumping applications with self-designed and newly built pump systems that correspond to market needs. Its professional pump experts take care of most installations to ensure safety and efficiency. Tsurumi has thousands of pumps at its warehouse in Belgium, including almost all of its 250 pump models.

“By acquiring Marine Motor’s & Pumps we are establishing and growing a strong rental presence in the European market,” says Daniel Weippert, managing director of Tsurumi (Europe) GmbH, chairman of MMPumps and president of TPL. “It allows us to deliver customer requirements at short notice. It’s a great time for Tsurumi to support this rental business as it stocks hundreds of Tsurumi pumps in its rental fleet, and provides flexible 24-hour customer service. Together, under the continued direction from Johan Dekker, the business will grow and provide the best service to our customers.”

Team work
Tsurumi and MMPumps have worked on many jobs together over the years, including projects such as the Liefkenshoek railway tunnel and Diabolo project, as well as many others in construction works, civil engineering and many other industries. Another project is the Sfinks music festival in Belgium. MMPumps have supplied Tsurumi dewatering pumps to the festival for a 10 year period as festival organisers decided they needed a more effective and environmentally-friendly system to manage wastewater generated during the event. Seven Tsurumi sewage pumps connected to a network of evacuation pipes to transport wastewater from the site to several specially created collection pits. From there, the waste was delivered to a local sewage plant. The same solution has been used at the festival since 2001.

What’s more, MMPumps still owns a selection of vintage Tsurumi pumps, some of which are over 20 years old. One of the oldest in its rental fleet is the B-series Tsurumi pump from 1981, which is still active today.
