Wastemet to be Launched in Shenzhen, China, for the First Time in July 2015

Jun 25 2014

WasteMET, a highly successful exhibition focusing on solid waste management and environmental technology, is set to be held in China for the very first time in Shenzhen, China on July 2015 at the Shenzhen Exhibition and Convention Center. The event is jointly-organised by Singapore-based SingEx Exhibitions Pte Ltd and China-based Worldex Fiera Milano Exhibitions (Guangzhou) Co.,Ltd., co-organised by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and supported by the Waste Management & Recycling Association of Singapore (WMRAS). WasteMET will be the first exhibition in China to focus on waste management and it will be held alongside the Water Expo.

WasteMET was first launched in Singapore in 2012 to provide a platform for policymakers and industry practitioners to come together and share market knowledge, explore investment opportunities and forge new business partnerships. It was awarded the Exhibition of the Year by Singapore Tourism Board. The second edition has just concluded in Singapore on a resounding note, with over 13,000 trade visitors from 37 countries and over S$318 million worth of projects announced and concluded to-date.

Riding on the successes of WasteMET Asia 2012 and 2014, SingEx Exhibitions and WMRAS have partnered with Worldex and CCPIT to bring the exhibition into Shenzhen, China, where rapid urbanisation has led to an increased focus on environmental issues such as pollution and waste management.

According to China Market Quest, the country’s investment in the solid waste treatment industry over a five-year period from 2011 – 2015 is projected to hit RMB800 billion, amounting to about 26% of the total investment in environmental protection industry. This number is projected to rise further, fuelling the demand from cities and businesses for practical solutions and technologies in waste management and recycling.

Mr Huang Shi Fang, Deputy Director General of CCPIT Shenzhen says, “Shenzhen is one the four largest cities in China with a population of 10.54 million people. Total investment in the non-toxic garbage treatment, transportation and collection plants in Guangdong province will reach approximately RMB37 billion in 2015, the highest amount in China’s cities. WasteMET China is coming in at an opportune time where the demand for waste management solutions is growing rapidly, and with Shenzhen’s strategic position as the gateway to China-overseas collaboration, we believe the exhibition will provide an excellent platform for the local industry to source for market-ready solutions from international exhibitors”.

Mr Wolfgang Qi Yi Long, Managing Director of Worldex says, “Judging from the success of WasteMET Asia 2012 and 2014, we are delighted to be given the opportunity to partner with SingEx and WMRAS to bring this exhibition into China. In view of China’s market potential, we are confident WasteMET China will serve as an effective platform for the industry stakeholders to come together to discuss solutions to environmental challenges, explore market opportunities and forge business partnerships”.

Ms May Yap, First Vice Chairman of WMRAS says, “As Asian cities continue to see unprecedented growth in the urbanisation of cities, the need for sustainable environmental solutions becomes even more critical. The success of WasteMET Asia 2012 and 2014 bears testament to the fact that it has addressed the critical needs of the industry across Asia. "We are excited to be able to bring our members to China via this platform to serve the needs of the local industry"

Ms Gwen Ng, Project Director for the WasteMET series of exhibitions says, “Two years ago, we saw the opportunity to create a new event platform and open the gateway to new market ventures and opportunities for the US$50 billion solid waste and recycling industry in Asia with WasteMET Asia. After two successful editions, we are pleased to be given the opportunity to bring this event into China, in line with SingEx’s vision of becoming a leading MICE player in the Asian region. We are excited to play a pivotal role in this event which we believe will help shape the development and growth of the local industry”.

WasteMET China 2015 will showcase the most advanced technologies and innovation in the field of solid waste management and environmental protection. It will feature a high-level forum, bringing together industry leaders to share the latest trends and insights on solid waste management and environmental technology. The exhibition will be co-located with Water Expo 2015, occupying an estimated 40,000sqm in Shenzhen Exhibition and Convention Center.
