Multiple Orders Won at Little Patuxent Water Reclamation Plant
Feb 22 2010
ITT Corporation (USA) announce it has been awarded multiple orders at the Little Patuxent Water Reclamation Plant in Howard County, Maryland for its Flygt, Leopold, WEDECO and Sanitaire product lines.
“Little Patuxent Water Reclamation Plant has always relied on the Sanitaire diffusers and Flygt mixers and propeller pumps as the heart of the nutrient removal system to meet its permit. Given the new permit standards, I felt confident in recommending ITT’s filters.”
As part of the Chesapeake Bay Initiative, Little Patuxent Water Reclamation Plant will upgrade its facility with the latest technology for Enhanced Nutrient Removal including an extensive process to remove nitrogen from water. ITT’s Water and Wastewater business will deliver a full suite of treatment equipment across the aeration, filtration, and disinfection stages of wastewater reclamation which can lower nitrogen levels to below 3 milligrams per liter.
High levels of nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous can damage estuaries and the surrounding ecosystems by causing excessive algae growth, leading to the subsequent depletion of dissolved oxygen and eventual fish kill.
Bob Fairweather, Vice President at Sherwood-Logan and Associates, ITT’s distributor, said, “Little Patuxent Water Reclamation Plant has always relied on the Sanitaire diffusers and Flygt mixers and propeller pumps as the heart of the nutrient removal system to meet its permit. Given the new permit standards, I felt confident in recommending ITT’s filters.”
In the aeration portion of the plant, ITT added over 7,000 new Sanitaire ceramic disc diffusers, nine Flygt mixers, and a Flygt propeller pump. For the filtration segment, ITT provided seven deep bed mono-media Leopold elimi-NITE filters as well as Leopold control panels and ancillary equipment. Finally, for the disinfection phase, ITT provided its WEDECO TAK 55 system which utilizes more than four hundred UV lamps to disinfect harmful bacteria before returning the water to the environment. WEDECO’s UV technology represents a more environmentally friendly disinfection method compared to chlorination or introducing other chemicals into the local water system.
ITT Water and Wastewater U.S. Managing Director Ron Port remarked, “This project really illustrates how our products work together to create a complete treatment solution for wastewater treatment plants. Reducing contaminants in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries is very important to ITT and I am thrilled we were able to help on this project utilizing our eco-friendly products and technology.”
