Kruger Helps Virginia Beach Reduce Odour & Chemical Costs
Aug 01 2011
Krüger Inc., a Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies company, specialized in water and wastewater treatment for municipalities, has provided an odour treatment solution that is making a big difference for one municipal wastewater treatment plant and their neighbors.
HRSD, the regional wastewater treatment utility that serves 17 cities and counties in southeast Virginia, recently completed a study that enabled them to optimize the use of odor reducing chemicals through a leading-edge odor monitoring technology called OdoWatch® provided by Kruger.
Mark Feltner, the HRSD environmental scientist who coordinated the study, said that thanks to OdoWatch®, HRSD was able to reduce chemical use by as much as 10 percent while improving odor control. Specific details of the study will be available at the Water Environment Federation’s next specialty conference on odor, which will take place April 15-18, 2012 in Louisville, KY.
The results of the study were sufficient for HRSD to acquire the technology for continued monitoring of odorous processes at the Chesapeake-Elizabeth Treatment Plant and at other HRSD plants in the future. “By using the OdoWatch® technology, we can assure our neighbors and rate payers that we are doing everything possible to reduce the potential for off-site odors while operating our plants as efficiently as possible”, concludes Mark Feltner.
