New President Announced
Oct 12 2012
CIWEM have recently announced Paul Hillman as their President of the Institution after his induction at Founders’ Hall.
Paul has a background in Public Health Engineering and as a Scientist. He has been broadening his interest and skills across the environmental agenda. He has also assisted the World Health Organisation (WHO) to establish CEHA in Jordan, a centre for the development of training, research and information exchange on community water supplies, sanitation and environmental management which serves the twenty three countries of the region. In addition he undertook environmental health assignments for WHO in many countries of the Middle East.
From his early days in the profession, Paul has developed a keen interest in the role of the profession as an arm of the preventative medical services. He sees direct involvement in this through the provision of water and sanitation but also through broader themes of environmental health and more sustainable approaches to future development. The linkages between education, research and the processes we use to strive towards sustainable development will be themes he will explore during his term in office.
As former member of both IPHE and IWES, Paul has always fostered a strong belief in the value of professional bodies. He places great store on the independent opinion and public benefit that the work of charities like CIWEM provide to the community and looks to support this during his year in office.
On becoming President Paul said: “It’s a great privilege to be entrusted with the Presidency of CIWEM. I will build on the good work of my predecessors and do all that I can to promote the unique and valuable work the Institution is doing across the breadth of water and environmental disciplines and to represent the interests of its membership”.
