Emerson's Advanced Automation Technologies to enhance sustainable transportation infrastructure in South Korea

Emerson has been chosen by HyIS-one to supply cutting-edge technologies for a new hydrogen refuelling station and storage facility in Busan, South Korea. This facility will be the largest hydrogen refuelling infrastructure dedicated to commercial vehicles in the country.

The new HyIS-one hydrogen refuelling station is designed to have a remarkable capacity of 350 kilograms of hydrogen per hour, allowing it to refuel over 200 commercial vehicles, including buses and trucks, each day. Additionally, it will feature a storage capacity of up to 1.5 tons of pressurised hydrogen and will be the first large-capacity hydrogen refuelling station in Korea that can unload tube trailers without requiring docking.

Kwon Sung-Wook, CEO of HyIS-one, stated, “This project will not only establish the largest hydrogen refuelling station in South Korea but will also mark the debut of a hydrogen storage and unloading station. With Emerson’s expertise and innovative solutions, we aim to lead the way in commercialising sustainable hydrogen infrastructure across the region.”

Emerson’s extensive range of automation solutions will enhance the safety and reliability of HyIS-one’s refuelling operations. The company will supply critical components, including pressure and temperature transmitters, ultrasonic gas leak detectors, pressure regulators, and safety valves, all essential for ensuring high performance in this commercial project.

HyIS-one also reports that its refuelling speed exceeds that of competing stations by more than 50%, thanks to a flexible design that adapts to evolving business needs. By 2026, HyIS-one aims to establish up to 30 large hydrogen refuelling stations nationwide and secure its own tube trailers to develop a robust hydrogen refuelling system for commercial vehicles.

HyIS-one has been recognised as a private capital subsidy project by the Ministry of Environment in 2023 and is actively expanding its hydrogen footprint, beginning with sites in Busan, Incheon, Ansan, and Jeju.
