Danish robot minimises waste that flows from rivers into the sea

A Danish robot called SeaProtectorOne has collected over 100,000 pieces of waste from the city of Aarhus in Denmark's river in just 20 months. Developed by All In On Green, the robot is installed at the mouth of the river in Aarhus and collects waste, such as plastic cups and facemasks, before it pollutes the sea. The robot allows boats to pass by and can be installed in at least 70 other cities in Europe. Every year, the amount of plastic waste that ends up in the oceans is equivalent in weight to 57,000 blue whales, with at least 90% of this waste entering the sea via river systems.
