Zero Waste to Landfill

Brewer Science, has once again achieved Zero Waste to Landfill Certification for the eighth year in a row. This certification recognizes the responsible management of end-of-life materials and highlights the company's commitment to waste diversion practices. Brewer Science is proud to be the first semiconductor and microelectronics company to receive GreenCircle Certification for Zero Waste to Landfill.

GreenCircle evaluates organizations for Zero Waste to Landfill Certification based on their ability to divert 100% of their materials from landfills using acceptable means of diversion. Waste diversion through source reduction, recycling, reuse, or composting is one of the best ways for manufacturing companies to demonstrate genuine environmental responsibility. Brewer Science's Rolla and Vichy manufacturing locations underwent an on-site audit, which evaluated 767,588 lbs of waste and the company's disposal methods. The audit revealed that 65% of waste was converted to energy, 18% was used for fuel blending, 12% was recycled, and 5% was reused.

Brewer Science believes that education plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable development across the supply chain. To bridge the gap in environmental initiatives among its stakeholders, the company has launched a new Sustainability Outreach Program. This program aims to collaborate with employees, suppliers, customers, and other organizations in the communities in which Brewer Science operates to align and implement sustainability programs and projects with a net positive impact on the environment. Matthew Beard, Executive Director of Strategic Planning, Management Systems, and Sustainability at Brewer Science, shared his thoughts on the initiative.

For semiconductor companies, evaluating the materials used in manufacturing, identifying more environmentally friendly alternatives, and responsibly managing waste are essential. In 2019, Brewer Science established its Green Chemistry Program, which identifies sustainable chemical alternatives and diverts hazardous materials for reuse applications. The company also partners with waste disposal companies and volunteer crews to prevent community e-waste from becoming a part of a landfill. Brewer Science shares its sustainability programs via its blog and "Going Green" page to encourage other tech companies to adopt more sustainable practices.
