The City of Oslo Awards Cambi Important Biogas Plant Contract
May 12 2011
The technology company Cambi (Norway) is proud to announce that it has been awarded the largest contract in the company’s history. The contract amounts to 350 million NOK, corresponding to $65 million. Cambi is today the world’s leading provider of advanced digestion systems based on it’s patented thermal hydrolysis processes (THP).
The biogas plant is designed and manufactured to the highest specifications in the biowaste sector. The order includes design, installation and commissioning of a complete turnkey biogas plant to treat 50 000 t/a of food waste. In addition, the plant will produce approx. 27 000 t/a of nutritious biofertilizer to serve about 100 mediumsized farms.
The order also includes a facility to produce upgraded fuel gas for buses in Oslo. Biogas production is an effective measure to replace fossil fuels with renewable fuels. The new plant will put the Oslo-region in the forefront of environmental development. Replacing diesel with upgraded biogas to fuel 135 buses or similar vehicles will reduce fossil CO2 emissions by 10,000 tonnes a year. Biogas in buses means cleaner air and less noise for Oslo’s 500 000 residents.
Planned construction start for the biogas plant is summer 2011 with completion by the end of 2012. Cambi will be the main contractor of the whole project. The Norwegian construction company Veidekke will provide all the civil work as a supplier to Cambi. The location of the plant is Nes in Romerike, an agricultural region northeast of Oslo.
Mr. Wojtech Sargalski, Cambi’s Tender Bid Manager, says that the contract is an important milestone for Cambi’s growth in processing food waste with the patented THP-process. Although Cambi has 22 Cambi plants in operation worldwide and another 3 under construction, this deal is large even by international standards. In fact, it is approximately 100% larger than Cambis previous contract record.
