Long Term Organic Waste Contract Renewed

Jun 25 2014

Orgaworld, part of Shanks’ Organics Division, has renewed a long term contract with five municipalities in the Netherlands to convert organic waste into green electricity and compost.

Under the contract, Shanks will continue to treat the organic waste at their Lelystad dry anaerobic digestion (‘AD) facility for the five municipalities in Flevoland, comprising: Dronten Flevoland, Lelystad, Noordoostpolder, Urk and Almere. Shanks will process 25,000 tonnes of food, garden and other organic waste from the municipalities each year, which will be converted into biogas for renewable energy generation and a nutrient-rich soil conditioner. Shanks’ ability to efficiently process nappies as part of the waste stream was a unique offering to the customers. The contract will last for an initial four years with an option to extend for a further four years.

Henk Kaskens, Managing Director of Shanks’ Organics Division said: “Having enjoyed a 20 year relationship with the municipalities, we were delighted to reach a new agreement to continue our record of providing green solutions to our customers for the coming years. Our solution enables the municipalities to make more from their waste by turning it into renewable energy and organic fertiliser.”
