International Expertise Leads to Growth

Independent environmental firm, SLR Consulting (UK), has announced year end results showing a record 24 per cent increase in revenue (year ending October 2011) to £83.3m.

SLR also reported a record EBITA (earnings before interest, tax and amortisation) before exceptional items of £9.1 million, up from £8.5m, the previous year.

The company, which provides specialist advice and support on a wide range of strategic and site-specific issues, benefits from a high level of repeat business, with over 50 per cent of the company’s revenue in the reporting period coming from clients for whom the company has worked for five years or more.

Commenting on the firm’s best ever results, Chief Executive, David Richards said: “We have had a clear focus on expanding our offering into primarily resource-led economies and this has been supported by the cross-selling opportunities arising from recent acquisitions.

“These results also confirm that the strategy of drawing on UK technical expertise and staff resources to support our international operations is gaining momentum. In just three years we have moved from generating 70 per cent of our sales in the UK to generating 70 per cent from overseas. We are now one of a very small number of truly international specialist environmental consultants with a strong footprint in Africa, Australasia, Canada, Europe, and the USA.”
SLR has a good track record in winning new projects and has recently provided advisory and technical services to: STEAG New Energies UK Ltd (for a Waste Incineration Directive compliant (WID) biomass Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant at Ridham Dock in Kent), Crest Nicholson (for the development of 2,500 homes at Kilnwood Vale, near Crawley in West Sussex.), Newcastle Energy Ltd (in obtaining planning permission for the first geothermal electricity generation plant in Ireland), The Government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania in West Africa (to facilitate the restructuring of the country’s key public geoscience body to assist in the sustainable development of the country’s extensive mineral resources), UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (in the development of a marine oil spill guide to ensure the effective processing of waste).

“We are well positioned both geographically and in terms of core skills to take full advantage of the attractive opportunities in resource led economies where demand for environmental consultancy services, particularly in the energy and mining sectors, continues to grow,” added David Richards.
