SLR Conducts Due Diligence on New Philippine Landfill

SLR Consulting has carried out due diligence work on the first of a new generation of landfill facilities, near Manila, in the Philippines for Phoenix Greenworks Capital Limited.

The recently completed San Jose Del Monte waste management facility is a 17,1Mn3 containment landfill and is one of the first to comply with the country’s new landfill legislation.
Laws passed in 2001 aimed to close all illegal controlled dumps and replace them with sanitary landfills, such as a 40ha site which is owned and operated by VJ Puyat Waste Management Inc.
Simon Thorne of the Phoenix Greenworks Capital Limited “SLR’s experience on similar projects in developing markets was a key factor for us and we were impressed by the efficient way in which they approached this project.”
SLR technical director, Bob Couth said: “Our study concluded that the site design and construction at San Jose Del Monte was in accordance with legislative requirements. Additionally we identified that there is great potential for Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) funding for landfill gas combustion at the site.”
SLR has previously carried out specialist landfill gas and CDM consultancy support in South Africa at the continent’s busiest landfill site near Durban where it assisted in the development of a methane gas extraction utilisation system.
