Board Appointment at Waste Management Company

Viridor (UK) is undertaking a strategic investment programme of in excess of £1 billion in leading-edge energy from waste and recycling facilities across the UK. To lead the delivery of this exciting programme the Company announces that Alan Cumming will be joining the Board as Capital Projects and Engineering Director in February 2013.
Based at Viridor’s Head Office in Taunton, Alan will lead the existing engineering department in the delivery of Viridor’s capital programme, working with various partners and contractors to ensure that high standards of engineering excellence continue to be delivered.
Alan has extensive experience across a wide range of engineering projects around the globe, most recently at EDF in their nuclear new build programme, where he held the position of Deputy Director of Construction, Project Controls and Procurement. Prior to that, he was Director of Capital Projects for British Energy’s fleet of nuclear power plants from 2005 to 2009. Previously Alan has worked at Kvaerner, AMEC and Brown and Root delivering large projects in China, Indonesia and South Africa as well as in the UK. Alan is a Chartered Civil Engineer and Structural Engineer and has a MBA from Strathclyde Business School.
Commenting on the appointment, Colin Drummond, Viridor’s Chief Executive, said: “Alan’s skills and knowledge will complement the existing Viridor Board and company structure. We look forward to welcoming him to this new and important role.”
