London Borough of Lewisham Awards Dry Recyclate Contract
Feb 06 2015
Viridor (UK) is pleased to announce they have been awarded the contract to process and sell dry recyclate materials from the London Borough of Lewisham. Beginning in December 2014, the contract will run for twelve months.
The London Borough of Lewisham will collect and transport kerbside recycling materials to Viridor’s Materials Recycling Facility in Crayford where, using advanced mechanical sorting techniques and manual quality control, Viridor will ensure that the highest possible quality of output is achieved to be used in re-manufacturing.
Household dry recyclate waste materials include items such as paper, card, plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays, cans, foil and glass. From across the London Borough of Lewisham this is estimated to total more than 20,000 tonnes in weight per year. Viridor is proud to be transforming this waste into high quality commodities and selling to customers using its in-house Viridor Resource Management trading division.
Simon Prior, Commercial Manager for Viridor, says “We’re very pleased to have won this contract with the London Borough of Lewisham and hope that this is the beginning of a strong relationship. We’re going to work in partnership with the borough to help increase the recycling rates as much as possible. This will include getting the message out that clothing and textiles are “up-cycled” or taken to local charity shops, not left in the recycling bin, to ensure that the materials we receive from the kerbside collections will be of the highest quality. In turn, we can then make the highest quality commodity’s possible to retain value in the re-manufacturing chain”
