Innovative Oil Filtration System Gains Award Recognition
Oct 21 2013
Specialist environmental services provider, Adler and Allan (UK), has been shortlisted for the ‘Innovation' category of the Energy Institute (EI) Awards thanks to Sockit, an oil contaminated water filtration system the company has developed to offer significant economic and pollution preventing benefits in the event of a spill.
Used by the Environment Agency, National Grid, BP and Scottish Power, Sockit is a portable ‘sock like' device that harnesses multi-stage filtration, removing hydrocarbons and sediment to almost non-detectable levels as water is being pumped away - on average 99% removal. Extremely efficient, Sockit can be used in a wide range of de-watering applications; oil tank bunds, trenches and boreholes, for example; without slowing up the pumping process, and is reusable and recyclable.
With contaminated water cleaned on site, there's no need for removal elsewhere, eliminating the risk of releasing polluted water back into the environment and reducing transportation costs, making it especially attractive to companies registered for BS EN ISO 14001 certification.
Alan Scrafton, Group Sales and Marketing Manager, said: "We are extremely pleased to be shortlisted and of course, hope we win! Sockit is an excellent product that has made a significant impact to the effectiveness of contaminated water clean-up, while reducing cost and logistical issues."
The EI Awards cover the depth and breadth of the global energy sector, and recognise the important contribution the energy industry makes to society. The EI Award winners will be announced on the 14th November, at a ceremony in London.
