Changes to WIMES Blower Performance Measurement Specifications Welcomed
Jul 20 2012
Atlas Copco (UK) have welcomed the revisions in the Water Industry Mechanical and Electrical Specifications (WIMES). The new revisions have placed more emphasis on measuring blower performances, according to ISO 1217, the standard for displacement compressors.
Along with the increased focus on blower performance, according to ISO 1217, guidelines have also been amended to include rotary screw blower technology. With the new WIMES 8.04 specification, water companies will be able to take advantage the Atlas Copco range of blowers. The Atlas Copco blowers can potentially reduce energy costs by an average of 30% when compared with lobe technology. The WIMES decision comes after a three-month review by the Pump Centre (who are the organisation behind compiling the guidelines), of which Atlas Copco are now official members.
Roger Marlow, Principal Consultant at the Pump Centre said: “The decision to include rotary screw blower technology in the WIMES reflects the evolving needs of the water industry. Energy efficiency has become increasingly important to water companies keen to reduce total cost of ownership, which is why more and more companies are now turning to rotary screw blowers.”
The future of the environment and water purity is of great concern to the industry. With these inclusions such as the ISO 8573-1, Class 0 (which gives the standard for the provision of 100% oil-free air) gives consumers complete peace of mind. Atlas Copco are the first manufacturer worldwide to receive the Class 0 certification for their range of products.
