New Additions to ZS Blower Range Launched

Jul 21 2012

The ZS range, from Atlas Copco (UK), of positive displacement screw blowers, has been expanded with a new range of models; the ZS7 to ZS22. Launched at IWEX (International Water and Effluent Exhibition), the new blowers offer the Atlas Copco benefits of oil-free screw blower technology.

Atlas Copco have focused on meeting today’s low carbon emission requirements with the ZS range. On average the ZS screw blowers are 30% more efficient than other lobe solutions. Numerous utility companies have taken up the opportunity of installing the ZS range since its launch 2010. Since the last review of the WIMES specification for blowers, guidelines were changed in include rotary screw blower technology. Atlas Copco’s new ZS7 to ZS22 blowers mean their range now extends from 7kW up to 250kW, so more customers can take advantage of these energy savings.

Atlas Copco have launched an application video of their ZS screw blower being used in a wastewater treatment plant. You can view this video via the following link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsBV2sqgi2E&feature=player_embedded

Industries that are benefiting the most from Atlas Copco’s range of air blower energy savings are those in the municipal waste and industrial wastewater treatment plants. Here air blowers can account for up to 70% of the electricity costs.

Many of these plants, at the moment, use far less efficient lobe technology. This technique has not had much development since the late 19th century. Using Atlas Copco’s range of blowers could potentially lower their energy costs and help companies operate more environmentally friendly.

The efficiency of the ZS comes from the innovative design. The screw technology found in the ZS series includes oil-free screw elements and precision timing gears to provide reliability and increased uptime. All this combined with element coating for closer tolerances offers an increased lifetime.

Many other features contribute to increased efficiency and reliability including: an integrated gearbox that doesn’t require belt and pulley replacement and is designed for reduced maintenance costs and increased uptime; the TEFC IP55 motor, designed for continuous operation in dusty and humid environments; and longer lifetime of bearings and gears due to lower oil temperature achieved by an optimum oil system design that includes an oil pump, oil cooler and filter.

Energy consumption typically represents 80 percent of the lifecycle costs of a blower. By offering energy-efficient screw technology within its air blower range, Atlas Copco can now offer a complete product portfolio of compressors and blowers for all applications and processes below 4 bar(e)/58 psig . Atlas Copco’s screw technology helps customers to save energy, which is a major advantage in a highly competitive marketplace.
