Water Treatment Plant Sealed for Protection
Jun 05 2012
Coating and sealing technology specialist Australian Urethane Systems (AUS) has supplied one of its potable water approved products to seal a West Australian water treatment plant against various potential threats, including hydrogen sulphide.
POLYEURO 1050H was used due to its fast cure rate, toughness, resilience and elastomeric properties over an area of 6000m2 at the Alkimos water treatment plant.
As a result, the water treatment plant gained long term protection of the concrete structure against hydrogen sulphide damage, achieved an excellent bond to its substrate on application, and provided a seamless coating to the roof and wall areas.
The Alkimos water treatment plant serves the population growth of Perth's north west corridor from Mindarie northwards. This population is predicted to reach about 150,000 by 2030.
The suburb of Alkimos will be the heart of this community, and essential to growth and development in this region is wastewater and water infrastructure.
POLYEURO 1050H was used with a specific priming system to seal the porous concrete structure and enable a pinhole free coating.
The 1050H technology is made even more suitable for applications of this type as it has a wide application temperature range.
AUS provides a comprehensive range of polyurethane systems across a wide range of applications and markets in Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region under the Austhane trade name.
The company markets the Polycoat Product (USA) Polyeuro range of polyurea, polyaspartic and polyurethane coatings systems including topcoats, primers and associated products.
In addition, it provides a range of polyurethane dispensing equipment from GRACO.
