Thermal Hydrolysis Process Chosen for Energiefabriek Tilburg in the Netherlands
Oct 12 2012
The technology company Cambi (Norway) have recently announced that their Thermal Hydrolysis Process (THP) has been chosen in the Netherlands by contractor Heijmans. Cambi is a known provider of advanced digestion systems based on their patented THP.
Heijmans are the main contractor for the project titled “Energiefabriek Tilburg” to Waterschap De Dommel. For this project Cambi will supply a 3 reactor B12 hydrolysis system. This will treat 29,000 tonnes of dry solids every year and will be ready for operation at the start of 2014.
Waterschap De Dommel currently operate several large wastewater plants found in the south of the Netherlands. They have decided to centralise their sludge treatment to one advanced digestion plant in Tilbury. Sludge from the Eindhoven WWTP and other smaller WWTP’s will be transported to the Tilburg site and treated in one central facility. This “Energiefabriek Tilburg”-project will maximise the energy production from sludge and ensure efficient treatment of side stream liquors.
This project will aim to create the necessary required energy for the Tilbury WWTP and produce a surplus amount of biogas to be used in the gas grid. Overall the project will cover more than 50% of all energy needs of Waterschap De Dommel. The project involves pre-treatment of all sludge by thermal hydrolysis with Cambi THP to allow for high-rate digestion and high conversion of organics. In addition, the Cambi THP will ensure optimised dewatering and reduced cake volumes.
