Environmental Education Network Launched
Mar 07 2013
To engage and inspire the next generation of water and environment managers, the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) has launched a new Environmental Education Network.
CIWEM (UK) is proud to announce the launch its new Environmental Education Network, which will focus on raising the profile of water and environmental challenges at school level and helping young people to develop the understanding and skills required to solve them in the future.
The Environmental Education Network aims to be the conduit connecting environmental professionals to those engaged in education; support the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Ambassador programme; and contribute to national policy dialogues on the environment and education.
Alastair Moseley, CIWEM Honorary Vice President and Environmental Education Network Chair said, “CIWEM’s membership is full of highly skilled professionals working to solve environmental challenges – challenges that we are likely to see increase in the future. This is an incredible resource to be tapped, and an opportunity for these individuals to help shape the future of environmental education and inspire the next generation of environmental professionals.”
The Network will host an interactive stand at the 2013 National Big Bang Fair this month, which is the largest celebration of science and engineering for young people in the UK, designed to make the link between the classroom and STEM careers.
The Environmental Education Network will also play a key role in CIWEM's youth water prize, Tomorrow's Water. Tomorrow’s Water is an opportunity for students at KS4 level, or those doing extended projects at A/S level, to develop practical and innovative projects aimed at solving water related problems. The winning project in the United Kingdom goes on to compete in the International Stockholm Junior Water Prize, one of the world's most prestigious student competitions for water related research.
