Participation in WEFTEC's Operations Challenge Announced
Oct 07 2013
Xylem (USA), a specialist global water technology company focused on addressing the world's most challenging water issues, is pleased to announce that its Godwin brand will again be featured in the Operations Challenge. The Godwin brand was featured in the WEFTEC Operations Challenge Maintenance Event 2005-2009. Now it's back for the 2014-2017 challenges. In addition, equipment and technology from Xylem's Flygt and MJK brands will be included in the challenge.
Municipal Utility Authorities from around the country form local teams that compete in statewide events, with winners advancing to the national event at WEFTEC each year. In the Operations Challenge, four-person teams of wastewater treatment professionals compete in five areas, one of which is the maintenance event.
In the maintenance event, teams are provided with a scenario in which a lift station needs a portable standby pump during maintenance on the station. Prior to deploying a portable pump, the team must perform routine maintenance on a Godwin Dri-Prime® NC80 pumpend, diesel engine and trailer. Then the pumpset is taken to the lift station and connected to the force main with a level transducer set in a wet well. This is a timed event with penalties given for missed steps or safety violations.
Equipment used in the challenge for 2014-2017 will include a Godwin Dri-Prime NC80 pump with Flygt N-technology, a PrimeGuard controller, and an MJK level transducer. This is the second time that a Godwin pump has been featured in the Ops Challenge. A Dri-Prime CD100M pump was used in the maintenance event 2005-2009.
