A durable submersible for pumping stations

Aug 28 2009

Are you in the market for submerged wastewater pumps for alternating or continuous operation? You would do well to give the new SL ranges from Grundfos (Germany) a serious look. An advantageous combination of technologies makes the durable SL an efficient option for sewage pumping stations in municipal network systems. The same advantages apply to sewage, effluent and surface water pumping stations in connection with commercial buildings.

The SL is flexible in a way that few pumps in its class can match. When sized correctly, it offers you a solution that is optimised to the actual conditions in your system.   The key to correct sizing is your dialogue with Grundfos. Our insight and expertise extends beyond the pump itself. Given the media properties and inflow data, including expected daily and seasonal variations, we can begin the process of putting the pieces together. The right impeller, an EFF1-type motor with or without frequency converter, a prefabricated pumping station and a controller will create a pumping set-up to suit each situation.

Picking the right control and monitoring system is a factor that does more for peace of mind that any other single component. Maintenance needs become predictable with integrated analogue sensors, and you will be the first to know when something isn’t the way it should be.

To indicate upcoming service needs, analogue sensors monitor trends in motor temperature, water-in-oil in the intermediate oil chamber and motor insulation resistance. An I/O 111 module equips the SL for any data communication task ahead.   Service and inspection needs have influenced the design so that the time spent on such jobs is kept short. The motor and pump can be separated in one easy move by opening the stainless steel clamp. The primary and secondary shaft seals are combined into a single cartridge unit that is easy to remove and replace. Seemingly minor details make a big difference that compounds over the pump’s lifetime.
