Another Bridge Scraper Contract for Jacopa

Wastewater treatment and services experts Jacopa (UK) have won a prestigious contract to refurbish four bridge scrapers on settlement tanks at Worcester wastewater treatment works.

The Severn Trent Water treatment works is sited within the Worcester conurbation in Worcestershire, and has a PE of around 128,000. The site is renowned as the location of the first full-scale continuous flow activated sludge plant which was installed in 1916 using Jones & Attwood equipment.

Jacopa’s contract followed an enquiry in 2014 from Severn Trent Tier 1 contractor Costain about plans to refurbish four bridge scrapers. After a period of meetings and site visits, Jacopa was awarded the contract in 2015 and is due to start work in July.

Jacopa key account manager for the Severn Trent Mick Burton says the company leveraged its partnering skills to win the contract, developing a close working relationship with Costain and offering advice and expertise during the consultation period.

Jacopa won a similar contract in 2014 to refurbish four half bridge scrapers and install two new cantilever travelling bridge siphon type filter distributors at the 6000PE Wem wastewater treatment works in Shropshire. The company worked closely here with Mott MacDonald Bentley to offer the most cost-effective solution, which involved tying the two contracts together.

Mick Burton says: “I believe that we were awarded both of these contracts because we worked closely with the contractors from the outset of the enquiries, offering our expert advice in a timely manner and always being readily available to visit site or meet at their offices, enabling them to deliver the most cost-effective and well-engineered solution to the end user.”
