Neutralisation of Acidic Wastewater

Acidic wastewater neutralisation specialist, Omex Environmental (UK), has expanded its range of Magmex pH control solutions with the introduction of a patented new product.

The new Magmex 1060 grade is a combined magnesium/calcium hydroxide suspension product that incorporates a unique formulation for those treatment applications where higher alkalinity levels are required to enhance metal precipitation.

The 60% solids-based product is manufactured under carefully controlled conditions in a patented process. This produces a comparatively low viscosity product that combines the safe and effective neutralisation properties of magnesia with the increased pH levels provided by the lime content.

The result is a completely new Magmex suspension grade that maximises neutralisation efficiency in the treatment of acidic wastewaters and control of pH levels in both anaerobic and aerobic systems.

With three grades of Magmex now manufactured as concentrated aqueous suspensions at its Bardney plant, Omex has the capability to meet different customer needs, storage requirements and applications.

In addition to the new Magmex 1060 grade, for large scale applications requiring accurate pH neutralisation and low volumes of precipitated sludge, Magmex 740 is the standard formulation. For smaller scale operations where longer term storage in IBCs is required without the need for agitation, Omex produces a stable easy-to-use magnesium hydroxide suspension in the form of Magmex 706.

Concentrated magnesium hydroxide suspensions have been developed as an environmentally friendly solution for wastewater neutralisation applications. This safe, easy to handle and control material overcomes many of the problems associated with the use of traditional acid neutralisers such as caustic soda or lime.
