New Partnership Supports Leachate and Groundwater Pumps

To help landfill operators with leachate management, surveyors with groundwater analysis and remediation specialists, Geotech (UK) and enitial have partnered for supply and service of pneumatic QED AP pumps. Jointly they will provide comprehensive and integrated supply-and-service of these high performance pumps in the UK at lower costs.

Geotech customers have been requesting full service pump maintenance, including on-site support, so the company asked its long-standing customer, enitial, to take up this role.

“We saw the potential for enitial to handle day-to-day servicing of AP pumps to offer the better price, turnaround time and site support Geotech customers requested,” said Simon Sheridan, Geotech UK sales and service manager. “QED AP pumps have a well-deserved reputation for reliable performance in hostile operating conditions. Even so, the best designed pumps require skilled servicing to ensure long life and protect against the costs of pump failure,” he added.

Operating in landfill sites to pump leachate and maintain fluid levels to EA standards, the Geotech-supplied QED AP pumps have to perform reliably and often non-stop. The leachate environment can be highly corrosive and potentially flammable or explosive demanding ATEX Zone 0 certified equipment. The precise characteristics of each landfill are often different and change with time. This demands periodic pump inspection, cleaning and maintenance to ensure reliable operation. One danger of inadequate inspection and service can be a rise of leachate to unacceptable levels. That can endanger watercourses and put the landfill operator’s EA licence at risk.

enitial is experienced in monitoring, management and environmental control of liability on land, ranging from effluent sampling to environmental reporting. It offers pump installation and for pumps being serviced, removal and replacement. This is part of its cost-effective, ‘pump maintenance plan’ which includes pump collection and delivery, an exchange service and pump tracking and performance reporting. Plans can involve workshop or on-site service.

During service each pump is stripped, cleaned and de-scaled with worn or damaged components replaced. A performance assessment is completed and each pump is then balanced, reassembled and tested and returned to the customer in five days.

Adam Chell, enitial managing director commented, “We started our pump service and maintenance plan several years ago to complement our site-service provision. We found that our clients welcomed the one-stop-shop approach which saved them the time and hassle of arranging their own servicing. Our team of experienced engineers operates nationwide within the landfill environment and understands the workings of a landfill site. We also employ a national monitoring team so we are never far from anywhere. We are very excited about working with Geotech having been a client for many years.”
