New Activated Carbon Products
Feb 28 2011
Siemens (UK) recently launched a new catalytic activated carbon under the company’s AquaCarb® liquid phase carbon family. AquaCarb® 1240CAT was developed for specific applications that require a catalytic reaction to remove the target contaminant. These applications include chloramine, hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) removal from water.
As a coconut shell based carbon, AquaCarb® 1240CAT offers all the typical advantages in a coconut carbon, including a higher activity (iodine number), higher VOC adsorption capacity, lower ash, and higher hardness/abrasion resistance, while adding catalytic functionality. Performance testing to date has shown a longer effective life for AquaCarb® 1240CAT as compared to competitive alternatives in the marketplace, resulting in reduced replacement frequencies and lower overall life cycle costs.
Applications for this new product include semiconductor wastewater or groundwater remediation systems employing UV oxidation (for H2O2 removal), treatment of municipal drinking water (for H2S and chloramine removal), and process water treatment in the bottling industry (chloramine removal).
Additionally, Siemens’ UltraCarb® 1240AW acid-washed carbon is manufactured to provide increased performance across a range of liquid phase and chemical purification processes. The product’s proprietary manufacturing process results in a unique pore size distribution, low density and high adsorption capacity which are desirable in applications such as decolourisation, amine and glycol purification and organic contaminant removal. Customers in the chemical processing and hydrocarbon processing industries can realise improved performance for process purification and process water treatment through the use of this new product.
