New HD Hydro-demolition Blast Water Treatment System being Launched at UK Concrete Show 2013

Siltbuster Limited (UK), the concrete washwater treatment specialists and winners of Best Product in Show last year with the innovative Big pHil Washout System, announce another new product launch for this year’s UK Concrete Show.

The new Siltbuster HD, Hydro-demolition Blast Water Treatment Unit will make its public debut on Stand F16 at the UK Concrete Show which takes place at the NEC on February 27 and 28.

Developed and prototyped in late 2012 in direct response to contractor requests for a compact, easily transportable and effective means of treating high pH, sediment laden blast water from hydro-demolition projects, the HD unit is the latest in the range of innovative and popular carbon dioxide (CO2) pH adjustment systems from Siltbuster.

Siltbuster’s HD unit ticks all the hydro-demolition contractors requirements, and is ideal for use on roadworks, or hydro-demolition projects in areas with limited access, such as multi-storey car parks etc. or short term projects. The unit is equally at home working at ground level or can be operated direct from a road-going trailer or works van. This means that it can be easily moved around once on site and can be removed at the completion of each working shift. The HD unit can operate continuously at flow rates of up to 5m3/hr and can be powered from an external 110V power source or more commonly its own internal battery, making it also ideal for use in remote locations and short hydro-demolition projects without the need for an additional generator, additional lifting equipment etc. and the associated costs.

In addition to its easy to operate design, the HD unit’s treatment process is a simple yet highly effective, low maintenance system which includes: Automatic Carbon Dioxide pH adjustment from on board cylinders to a pre-determined user defined value; Primary Solids Retention in a reusable specialist geotextile bag, fully removable for emptying and cleaning. The bag not only captures the larger suspended particulates present within the blast water it also captures any precipitates which naturally form during the neutralisation of the highly alkaline water; Integrated Siltbuster lamella clarifier to settle fine blast water particulates; The units own internal flocculant dosing system for enhanced settlement of microfine particles and precipitates; Automatic discharge of the treated, pH neutral solids free water from the unit via an outlet weir.

The first HD unit has been in action with the leading hydro-demolition contractor, Sabre Jetting, on numerous bridge repair works on the A47/A15 Paston Interchange near Peterborough where it simplified and accelerated the project and impressed Dan Pampols, Operations Manager of Sabre Jetting who commented: “On a job like this, where every delay imposes a huge inconvenience on the motoring public, contractors and subcontractors are under tremendous pressure to get the job done quickly. So a hydro-demolition unit that cuts potentially 10 days off a 35 day job, but still treats the excess blast water to the highest standard, is a very big deal. Without the new HD unit, this job would have been an absolute nightmare. We would lose half a day every time we wanted to move from one part of the job to another and the time to complete the work would have been extended and massively inflated.“

Adam Huckstep, MD of Siltbuster Limited says “We are very pleased to receive such fabulous feedback for the new HD. We believe the HD unit will transform the treatment of excess blast water from hydro-demolition projects, the duration and cost of such projects and help contractors with their work on short term and space constrained sites. We couldn’t think of a better place to unveil the HD unit than at the UK Concrete Show”.
