Sludge Treatment in the Bag

Oct 18 2012

Siltbuster Limited (UK) have recently launched a new range of specialist geotectile dewatering bags called the Siltstoppa Dewatering Bags. This range is aimed at filtering the fine solids sludge from water treatment processes.

Siltbuster Limited are a specialist silt management manufacturer. Their new range of products are designed in a variety of different sizes and can be tailored towards the space available and requirements. The Siltstoppa Dewatering Bags can be installed on their own to cover a drainage area or can be mounted in a container for ease of transport. Siltbuster also offer a complete water treatment package, which will include the Siltstoppa Dewatering Bags, their water clarifiers along with other pre-treatment solutions.

Dr. Richard Coulton, Siltbuster Limited’s Managing Director, commented: “Siltstoppa Dewatering Bags use a technology we’ve been using for some time and given the hassle and costs associated with tankering liquid waste off site, they’ve more than proved their worth.

“It’s a passive technology requiring no power. The sludge is conditioned to make the solids bind together and separate out the water, similar to curdling milk. It’s just a case of filling the bags and letting the bleed water drain out through the geotextile fabric to be collected and pumped back into the water treatment plant, captured and reused or discharged off site.”

“These bags are the ideal solution to dewater the water treatment sludge on a construction site so it can be mucked away with the other materials.” continues Coulton.

The settled solids remain in the bag and dewater, so their volume reduces. When the Siltstoppa bag is full it can either be split open on site and the dewatered solids removed by excavator, or similar equipment, leaving only disposal of the geobag remnants. Alternatively the skip container and filled geobags can be taken off site for disposal of the dewatered solids.

The new Siltstoppa range is a low cost, low tech option for large and small contractors looking for simple ways to dewater sludges and wet waste and treat water that is a by-product of their operations.
