New Contract of Supplying Mechanical Bar Screens
Sep 27 2013
Degrémont, a SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT subsidiary, has been selected to design and supply Climber® Screen mechanical bar screens for the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Permanent Canal Closures and Pumps (PCCP) facilities, near Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Degrémont will design and supply seventeen Climber® Screen mechanical bar screens for channel debris removal which will provide critical frontline protection and safeguard the integrity of the three pump stations. The massive screens will handle an aggregate flow of 59 million m3 per day (15.7 billion gallons) and will vary between 7 and 9 meters in width. With seventeen units each reaching a depth 15 meters, PCCP will be one of the largest screening projects undertaken by Degrémont to date.
The US Army Corps of Engineers selected PCCP Constructors, a joint venture consisting of Kiewit Louisiana, Traylor Bros., and the M.R. Pittman group for the construction of three facilities that will provide permanent risk reduction from heavy tropical rainstorms and 100-year storm surge events, in replacement of the interim closure pumps and structures installed after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The three new permanent facilities will be located at outfall canals and will form one of the largest drainage pumping station projects in the world. The pumping stations are slated for completion in 2017.
Maximilien Pellegrini, CEO of Degrémont’s US subsidiary stated that, “We have very strong ties to the greater New Orleans area, where we have installed more than one hundred Climber Screen units over the last 25 years. Degrémont is extremely proud to be a part of this latest hurricane flood damage risk reduction project that will provide vital protection to the City.”
