Scum Skimmer Pumps used in Latvian Fishery
Mar 31 2014
The UNDA SIA fish processing plant in Latvia has been established since 1931 and is a canned, cured fish and seafood company with more than 70 years of experience in the production of more than 50 types of canned fish, including herring, sprat, cod, sardines, mackerel and the traditional Latvian and world-renowned canned fish – Rīgas šprotes eļļā (Riga sprats in oil).
The enterprise is located in Engure, directly on the Gulf of Riga coast about 80 km to the west from the fishing village. The company employs more than 370 and owns two Baltic fishing ships, which provide the most direct way of delivery fresh fish from the sea. The company produces a minimum of 10 tonnes of fish a day.
Vides Eksperts founded in 2004 is a leading specialist in the waste water treatment industry and was appointed to take care of the plant’s waste water treatment last year. To effectively remove fat and grease from the fishery’s waste water, Vide Eksperts installed a Tsurumi FSP scum skimmer pump and 32TRN2.75 aerator.
The unique Tsurumi FSP scum skimmer removes floating oils and greasy solids from waste water to prevent blockages and a buildup in the system. Once the harmful scum has been skimmed from the top of the water, it’s then pumped to collection tanks for processing. The installation depth below the water surface of FSP´s pump inlet can be adjusted by 60mm range and it’s designed with a jet injector suction mechanism to collect scum efficiently.
The Tsurumi 32TRN2.75 submersible aerator has a self-priming function and built-in special semi-open impeller that generates negative pressure and draws in air from above the water’s surface. The drawn air and liquid are mixed and discharged at a high pressure, which contributes to highly efficient amount of oxygen.
The Tsurumi pumps took one day to install and have proven to be reliable and durable. Installing the FSP pump was vital for the site in order to create a better flow system to transport the fat scum to the pump suction inlet.
“It’s the first time we have used Tsurumi pumps and we couldn’t be happier with the results,” says customer, SIA Vides Eksperts. “The site was in need of a solution because the fat on the surface of the water was building up and wasn’t being sucked into the treatment system for processing.”
The pumps were provided to Vides Eksperts by Tsurumi Latvian dealer Indutek. Indutek was established in 1995 as an industrial equipment provider and part trade company. The company is a member of the trading group Indutrade, which represents more than 170 trading companies in 25 countries. During almost 20 years Indutek LV has developed its business in industrial niches and its core competencies are air conditioning, ventilation, water supply, sewage, metal cutting tools, surface treatment, air compressors and compressed air systems. Indutek started using Tsurumi products in 2012, and since then, the relationship has flourished.
