Funding Announced For Green Businesses and Reducing Carbon
Mar 01 2011
Financial help is available from CO2Sense for businesses with a new green idea or that want to reduce their carbon emissions and costs.
Funding can be used by businesses that want to reduce how much energy and water they use, and so save money and carbon emissions. It can also be used to fund new green products, manufacturing processes or services that will help others to reduce carbon emissions.
The government estimates that the green sector in Yorkshire and Humber had sales of around £2.1bn in 2007, and by 2016 this is estimated to grow to £2.8bn. Furthermore, all businesses in Yorkshire and Humber can make combined savings of £553 million by making changes to the way they use water, energy and raw materials, and how they manage waste.
Ashley Robb, from CO2Sense, said “There are huge opportunities in the environmental business sector to introduce new products and processes that will emit less carbon. We want to help organisations and individuals develop innovative ideas and sell them. We also want to help all businesses become more efficient, and so save them money and reduce their carbon emissions”.
The funding will come from CO2Sense, a not-for-profit organisation that helps the environmental sector to grow, and part funded by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Successful organisations will receive a repayable financial package suited to them, and will not have to make any repayments until they are generating income.
