Eco-Schools to Go Green with Renewable Energy Firm

Oct 17 2014

Schools across the UK are set for a brighter educational, environmental and financial future thanks to local renewable energy firm Solarlec (UK).

Solarlec are a Carbon Trust-approved supplier of renewable energy systems including solar PV and biomass boilers.

They are one of a specially selected number of approved partners of both the Eco-Schools programme which is run by Keep Britain Tidy, and a new initiative run in conjunction with the Department of Energy and Climate Change and the British Photovoltaic Association called "Power To The Pupils".

The Eco-Schools partner provides ‘schools compliant' funding solutions to help academic organisations finance renewable energy systems that could pay for themselves, through energy savings and government subsidy schemes, with no upfront costs.

Solarlec, which offers national coverage from its regional offices in Burnley, Carlisle and Exeter, is set to install the first of many solar PV systems at a Greater Manchester school through the Eco-Schools scheme next month.

Solarlec senior energy advisor Antoni Squires said: "Funding is an issue for so many UK schools with a desire to be greener, so the Eco-Schools scheme is a fantastic way to help hundreds of establishments enjoy significantly lower bills, a guaranteed income from government green incentives and reduced carbon emissions to contribute towards a sustainable future.

"As part of the initiative, we are equipping each school with sophisticated monitoring systems to make this a fantastic learning tool too. We're delighted to be involved in the Eco-Schools programme to help schools achieve their Green Flag Award, and realise the financial and environmental potential of renewables like solar."

Eco-Schools funds systems through the Carbon Trust-endorsed Siemens Financial Services, for which Solarlec is an approved provider.
