Waste Food and Beverages give Green Power from a Blue Box

May 24 2013

Food chain waste recycler, Kwaliflex based in Wanroij in the Netherlands, wanted hygienic plastic box pallets that would fit its process. “They must be strong enough to withstand the treatment they receive, so we decided to go for quality and chose the Dolav (UK) 1000-ACE," said Roel van Haeren, at Kwaliflex, a sister company to the Qualiflex Biproduct Solutions Limited (QBS) in the UK. Both are within the Smits Group of companies.

Kwaliflex and QBS operate in food and beverage waste recycling, bio-fermentation and animal feed production. They specialise in recycling all possible (packaged and bulk) residual waste streams from the food and drinks industry, both dry and liquid. Kwaliflex and QBS recycle many different types of waste food products, such as: chocolate, sauces, rice, jam, honey, bread and confectionery as well as dairy products, spices and other foodstuffs. All product streams received are processed in house  thus guaranteeing products identified as waste can never re-enter the market. For processing animal protein (such as unpacked foods or dairy), Kwaliflex has achieved a Category 3 rating by the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority. The hygienically clean properties of the Dolav ACE can assist with that.

Waste food to green electricity

The waste food and beverages are the feedstock for the anaerobic digesters which produce methane-rich biogas which in turn powers a 4.6 Megawatt generator of green electricity.  This is enough to power more than 10,000 households for a year and contribute to reduced CO2 emissions.

Clean design quality

The Dolav 1000-ACE has been confirmed as having ‘hygienic design’ by the UK-based, Campden BRI*. The ACE is made from solid-wall, food-grade HDPE and its low-pressure injection moulding adds to its strength. For Kwaliflex, Dolav hot die-stamped standard, ultra-marine blue, pallet boxes with the company logo and sequential numbering in yellow foil. Each 1200 x 1000 x 740mm ACE pallet box can hold 620 litres/900kg and stack to a bottom load of 5000kg.

“In recent independent tests at TÜV SÜD, the Dolav 1000-ACE proved that it can withstand abuse better than any other competitor’s product tested at the same time, confirming them as extraordinarily fit for purpose,”said Addy Bleijs at Dolav Benelux.
