Xergi signs contract with a United States municipal corporation

Jan 11 2012

Xergi has signed a contract with the Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (MMPA) for the establishment of a new biogas plant in the United States. The biogas plant, Hometown BioEnergy, will be built with gas fired CHP engines with a total output of 8 MW electrical power.

Hometown BioEnergy will be built in Le Sueur, Minnesota and will produce biogas from agricultural and food processing wastes such as sweet corn silage, potato waste and chicken manure.

We are very proud that we will now be working with MMPA’s management partner and project developer Avant Energy, Inc., on their development of biogas plants. This plant is – even by international standards – advanced and sizeable. We hope that it will contribute to paving the way for new business opportunities in the United States, says Managing Director Jørgen Ballermann.

Xergi will produce the facility design and supply key components. In addition, Xergi will provide assistance during construction, and advise Avant during the commissioning of the plant.

One of the key components supplied by Xergi is the company’s innovative FLEXFEED® module for the pre-treatment of the biomass before it is fed into the anaerobic digesters. Pre-treatment ensures a more optimal biogas process in the digester tank which will be built to Xergi’s GASMAX® design.

Another key component supplied by Xergi will be the agitators which will ensure smooth and efficient digestion of the biomass in the digester.

Finally, Xergi will supply the SCADA system which is used to control and monitor biogas plant operations.

”This project is an important asset for MMPA and is a very natural fit for agricultural areas such as Minnesota,” says Project Director Kelsey Dahlen. ”Hometown BioEnergy will help MMPA meet the state-mandated requirement to provide 25 percent of our electricity from renewable sources by 2025.”

So far, four biogas plants based on technology from Xergi have been built in the United States.
