How to turn waste into new business opportunities?

The Region of South-East Europe still lacks modern facilities and faces challenges to meet the high standards set by the EU in waste management sector. What measures should be taken for a safe tomorrow? How to recover waste streams and turn them into resources? What are the good practices and how to finance the waste projects?
Answers of all these questions will be given at ‘Save the Planet’ - the South-East European Conference and Exhibition on Waste Managemet, Recycling and Evnironment, organized by Via Expo. The event is one of the most important forums in the Region. It will show the huge business potential of the local market and will encourage the know-how transfer in these sectors. ‘Save the Planet’ will run from 28th to 30th March 2012 in Sofia, Bulgaria. ’Exhibition - Conference’ format turns it info a meeting point for new product exploration and face-to-face contacts between representatives of business, public authorities and institutions on a global scale.
Leading companies will present cutting edge technologies and services: waste treatment equipment, transport vehicles, containers and collection-, composting and recycling systems, eco-friendly products, financial and advisory services, etc. The event will attract experts from municipalities, manufacturers, traders and buyers.
High-level speakers from over 20 countries will participate in the Conference. The International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) will present different financing tools for waste management. Mr. Jean-Pierre Hannequart, the president of the Association of Cities and Regions for Recycling and Sustainable Resource Management (ACR+), will speak about legal instruments to push forward recycling.
The program highlights will be: Waste Treatment Technologies, Landfilling, Waste Prevention, Recycling, Energy and Resource Recovery. Via Expo starts a ‘Greenest Municipality Competition’ for the Bulgarian municipalities with the aim in 2013 this event to be extended with a participation of municipalities from South-East Europe. The Greenest Municipality Award 2012 will be bestowed to the winner at the event opening.
‘Save the Planet’ is promoted through a wide network of regional and international partners, to name but a few: European Biomass Association (AEBIOM), European Suppliers of Waste to Energy Technology (ESWET), Confederation of European Waste-to-Energy Plants (CEWEP), European Network of Environmental Professionals (ENEP), Association of Cities and Regions for Recycling and sustainable Resource management (ACR+), enviMV (Network for Environmental Technologies from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania), etc.
