Wastewater treatment

Tackling wastewater treatment challenges of energy efficiency, environmental impact, and long-term reliability.

BIOROCK has announced the launch of BIOROTOR, an innovative new RBC (Rotating Biological Contactor) system. The new system is designed to tackle today's wastewater treatment challenges of energy-efficiency, environmental impact, and long-term reliability.

BIOROTOR is the first completely modular wastewater system. Combining all processes in one package ensures it's far more efficient, reliable, and cost-effective than current wastewater treatment systems. The modular design also allows engineers to install BIOROTOR in a series. This gives it a capacity up to 10,000 PE - enough to serve sites up to the size of a village.

Each BIOROTOR module includes an innovative gear drive system, powered by a small independent drive motor. This increases energy efficiency by at least 50% compared with any other high-capacity sewage system. The increased efficiency means that BIOROTOR costs far less to run and can be powered by alternative energy sources, such as solar energy.

‘Our passion for protecting the environment is what keeps us motivated. Our mission is to produce simple and efficient systems with low carbon footprints. We created BIOROTOR to be more efficient, compact, robust, easy to operate, and simple to maintain than any existing system.’

BIOROTOR has been created as an answer to today’s challenges in high-capacity wastewater treatment. BIOROCK says issues with transportation, installation, maintenance, and energy use are costing projects - and the environment. The energy needed to treat wastewater means not every village can afford to power a wastewater treatment plant. Most systems are very expensive to install, operate, and maintain, meaning in some regions treating wastewater is not an option. This can lead to the pumping of huge amounts of wastewater into streams, rivers, and oceans, contaminating the surrounding area.
