Former MD of EDF generation to lead pioneering waste to energy firm
Jul 13 2009
Advanced Plasma Power (‘APP’), the UK’s first waste to energy company using breakthrough Gasplasma technology, has appointed Simon Merriweather as Chief Executive Officer.
Simon was previously Managing Director of EDF Energy’s generation assets, with the commercial and operational responsibility for producing over 6% of the UK’s power across a coal and gas fired power station portfolio
On taking the CEO role, Mr Merriweather said: “I am delighted to be joining such an innovative and vibrant company as APP at this stage of its development. Waste transformation and renewable energy generation are the industries of the future and I look forward to ensuring APP remains at the forefront of both. There is a strong pipeline of opportunity at home and abroad and APP is now poised for strong growth. Its good to see a UK company taking the lead on these matters.”
APP is now commencing commercial operations through a variety of joint ventures and licensing partnerships in the U.K., Europe and the U.S.
APP’s Gasplasma technology economically converts municipal solid waste and commercial and industrial waste into two recyclable products: a clean, hydrogen rich, synthetic gas (“Syngas”), capable of generating high electrical output and an inert aggregate (“Plasmarok” TM ) that can be reused as a component for building materials and consumer products.
