PDM to unveil new AD plant at RWM 2011

Aug 04 2011

PDM, a prominent UK food waste recycler, will unveil its new anaerobic digestion plant at this year’s RWM exhibition (Birmingham NEC, 13 – 15 September 2011). Due to be operational in September 2011, the plant which will operate under the ReFood brand will provide capacity to recycle 45,000 tonnes of food waste into renewable energy.

Also at the show, PDM’s Suzanne McDermott will be delivering a seminar session on Thursday 15 September in the Technology and Innovation Theatre.

Entitled ‘Finding and implementing collection technologies that will make food waste recycling a mainstream habit’, the session will cover the barriers to food waste recycling, the particular rigours of the food waste collection process and how collaboration between product designers, architects, local planners, kitchen manufacturers and scientists could help to overcome the obstacles.

Visitors to PDM’s stand – 945 – will be able to learn about the company’s nationwide food waste recycling service and its portfolio of recycling solutions, which include AD, biomass to energy and rendering. In total, the company processes more than one million tonnes of food chain by-products each year into a range of end products including renewable energy, heat and pet food ingredients.

Philip Simpson, commercial director at PDM, comments: “We’re delighted to be able to launch our first ReFood anaerobic digestion plant at this year’s RWM. It’s a service we have wanted to offer for a long time and through working with our German partners, SARIA, we have been able to bring one of the most efficient and advanced AD technologies to the UK.”

PDM will also have available on stand ‘Vision 2020’, the company’s view on the future of the food waste recycling sector and the areas that the UK needs to focus on to have an infrastructure in place that can recycle the many millions of tonnes of food waste generated in the UK each year. On stand, companies can sign up to the Vision and demonstrate to their stakeholders their commitment to eradicating food waste from landfill.
