Successful Commissioning of RO Pre-Filtration at Desalination Plant in India
Apr 02 2013
Amiad (Israel), a specialist global producer of water treatment and filtration solutions, is pleased to announce the successful application and implementation of a pre-filtration solution, based on the Company’s Arkal Galaxy Disc filtration technology, at a newly-built municipal seawater desalination plant in Chennai, India, which has now entered the commissioning phase.
The plant, which is located 50 km south of Chennai, draws water from the Bay of Bengal that is processed to provide purified water to residents of the southern suburbs of Chennai in Velachery, Pallipattu, Thiruvanmiyur and the localities along the IT corridor. When it reaches full capacity, which is expected to occur in the forthcoming weeks, the plant will supply 100 million litres a day to the city.
Arik Dayan, CEO of Amiad, said: “We’re pleased to be a part of this important project, which will help to ensure that the residents of Chennai have access to clean water. It also reaffirms the benefits and value our Arkal disc filtration technology offers for municipal applications worldwide, including the growth area of desalination.”
As previously announced, Amiad’s solution was selected by VA Tech Wabag, a leading multinational company in Indian water and wastewater management, which was awarded the contract to build and operate the plant by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewage Board.
