Wonga Future 50 Recognises Contribution to the Solar Sector

The Wonga Future 50 selected Engensa (UK), as one of the 50 young, disruptive firms that are the businesses of the future.

According to the Wonga Future 50 judging panel, Engensa has excelled at expanding the solar power sector through its passion and commitment to help families cut energy costs by revolutionising the way they heat and power their homes. Recently, Engensa has broadened its expertise to work closely with commercial businesses to deliver a full range of commercial systems from ground-mount through to aggregated portfolios of commercial roof-top PV via its SolarLoan programme.

Toby Darbyshire, co-founder and CEO of Engensa said: "Just three years after quite humble beginnings we're helping thousands of families cut bills by installing a solar system, replacing their boiler or generating low cost heat every year. We're proud that over 90 per cent of our customers recommend us. Despite the challenging solar market, Engensa is constantly striving to deliver alternative and cost-efficient solar energy sources to its customers."

The Wonga Future 50, published by Real Business, identifies, celebrates and supports companies under four years old that are triggering change in their markets; or creating new markets.

Launched by Real Business in 2011, the first Future 50 programme identified businesses such as Songkick, which went on to become the first UK business to secure funding from US venture capital firm Sequoia Capital, and the disruptive hotelier, OneFineStay.

Errol Damelin, Wonga co-founder and CEO, said “Britain's future prosperity lies with innovative businesses and entrepreneurs - those who have the courage and determination to reach for the stars and build the growth engines of the future. We founded Wonga to disrupt financial services and provide people with a fresh alternative to traditional sources of credit. So we've decided to create the Wonga Future 50, together with Real Business, to help identify, celebrate and, critically, support the most exciting early-stage UK businesses that are launching new products and services to trigger change. We congratulate all 50 businesses on their vision and ambition.”

Matthew Rock, part of the founding team of Real Business, said: “Partnering with Wonga, the British Library Business & IP Centre and our panel of expert judges, we’ve spent six months investigating businesses across the country to select just 50 that we think will be 'challenger' businesses of the future. What's so impressive is to see young firms challenging established industries with a new, often digital, vision. The Wonga Future 50, published with Real Business, illustrates the dynamic change coursing through our economy.”
