Phase Two of Multi-Million Pound Power Station Contract

Imtech Suir Engineering Ltd who are a part of Imtech (UK), have recently started the second phase of a project worth almost €20m (approx. £16.2m). The project is aimed at installing a new electrical system for the Runcorn Thermal Power Station.

Imtech Suir Engineering are working alongside their clients Keppel Seghers. They are responsible for the design, procurement, erection and commissioning of the plant’s Electrical and Control system.

The main aspects of the electrical plant include two 8Mva 33/6.6KV Power Transformers; Auxiliary transformers (6.6KV/690V and 6.6/0.415 kV); 33KV & 6.6Kv MV Voltage distribution systems; MV Protection Systems & Control Panels; 110/24V DC and 230V UPS supplies; Instrumentation I/O Panels; Controls Fibre Optic Network; Emergency diesel generator for safe shut down of the plant; and Earthing systems.

Edward Walsh, CEO of Imtech Suir Engineering Ltd, said: “This is an incredible project to be part of. The Runcorn Thermal Power Station will be largest waste-to-energy plant of its type in Europe. Once completed, the plant will have the capacity to process 750,000 tonnes of Refuse-derived fuel waste.”

Imtech Suir Engineering Ltd commenced design in October 2010 and mobilised on-site in June 2011 and is due to complete the contract in March 2014.

The power plant is part of a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) waste management project by the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA).
